The University of Nebraska at Omaha Child Care Center (UNOCCC) provides a high quality child care and early education service for families, as well as opportunities for training, research and further knowledge of the care, education and development of young children. The UNOCCC integrates quality child care services and early childhood education. Our method supports the "whole child" concept of development based on the belief that one cannot educate without offering care and protection; and one cannot provide care and protection without also educating young children in a group setting. Knowledge of this integrative practice promotes respect for children and the adults who care for them.

The UNOCCC strives to balance its unique culture with the cultural interests of each family served. Respect for the Center's diverse community is reflected in the curricula, environment, developmental goals and parent/teacher/child interactions.

Child Care

Child care is provided for children (18 months through 12 years of age) from 6:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The center is open year round with the exception of University closings. "Educare" Program Children learn through play and practice. It is important that the child care environment is structured to maximize opportunities for natural learning. Our "educare" preschool program incorporates planned activities, both structured and unstructured, as well as equipment and materials which will encourage young children to experiment and to pretend. Our goal is that the children develop a positive self image and attitude toward themselves, the other children and the program. The children will be encouraged to make their own decisions and choices. We strive to help your child understand that different levels of ability and development are valued and accepted.

Open Door Policy
Open Door Policy allows parents to drop in and visit with their children any time. Parents are also invited to eat lunch with their children (for a nominal charge).

Caring Qualified Staff
The staff is selected because of training and/or experience in working with children. Lead teachers have either bachelor's or associate degrees and assistants have at least two years' experience in working with children. Teacher's aides are often students majoring in education.

Attention to Quality
The Administration of the UNOCCC takes its commitment to high quality child care for children seriously. Therefore, the center was the first program in Nebraska to be accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). This distinction means that the program meets and continues to pursue the highest standards of quality. For more information about accreditation, go to www.naeyc.org.
